2012 was a great year for Money Savvy Michelle. Even through the transition from a deal blog to a lifestyle blog, we managed to increase traffic by nearly 40% compared to 2011, which I am super excited about. I feel like 2012 was a year of learning in the blogging world for me and I’m excited to continue to apply and expand upon everything I’ve learned.
Speaking of which, that is a main goal of mine for 2013 – to keep learning and researching blogging because if I’ve learned nothing else this year, it’s that things in this business are constantly changing. For example, in early 2012 Facebook was consistently my number 1-2 source of traffic. However, as I’m sure everyone is aware of by now, Facebook has changed a number of things in their service and now Facebook has dropped down to consistently being 7th or lower in our traffic referrals. This taught me to not take any one source for granted and to spend equal time in all areas to continue to expand my blogging business. Luckily I followed my own advice and now Pinterest, which was my 9th or lower source of traffic in October and months prior, ended up being our 5th overall highest source of traffic for 2012 as a whole.
Speaking of traffic sources and getting to the point of this whole post, here are some traffic stats from 2012.
Money Savvy Michelle’s 2012 Traffic Report
Top 10 Referring Sites:
- Google Organic Search (actual source was direct traffic – bookmarks, etc., but that’s not really a site, is it?)
- Google.com/referral (usually image searches – actual source was email newsletters, but again that’s not really a site, is it?)
- Yahoo Search
- Bing Search
